Dungeon!

Wizards of the Coast recently reprinted the old Dungeon! boardgame (for it's... fifth?... incarnation). And now they've put up an interview with the designer, David Megarry.

An Interview with David R. Megarry

Well, I think we played it three or four times but then the prototype went to Gary Gygax in Lake Geneva. I invented Dungeon! in October, 1972 and visited Gary (with David Arneson) in December, 1972. Gary liked the game a lot and was willing to try to peddle it to [Don] Lowry [of Guidon Games, the original publisher of Chainmail]. I left the prototype with him at that point. I had not made a copy of anything, so this was a very trusting activity. Ultimately I got the board back and the cards but the hand drawn rule booklet was lost.

It's nice to see the story from the other side of my dad's porch.

We’ll Sail One Season More…

A couple weeks ago, we were made aware of an anime that sadly isn't making over here yet. A friend of ours has gotten the series (well, the six episodes released so far) on Japanese Blu-ray, which thanks to the simplified region scheme, is also playable here. So for the last couple weeks we've been watching:

Yes, they're remaking the original Space Battleship Yamato. And it is good. They're staying very true to the original plot and story, but cleaning things up to make more sense. I really hope it gets an official release over here.

Hello Turkey?

I thought I've seen everything when it comes to Hello Kitty.  Machine Gun?  Check!  Personal *cough* massagers?  Check!  A few other things I really shouldn't mention in polite company?  Check!

Well, this one is pretty weird, even though it is tame.  You can now buy a Hello Kitty plush that turns into a cooked turkey plush with Hello Kitty's face branded into the side of it.  Yep.  It can be yours if you so with to decorate your Thanksgiving table with a cat that turns into a turkey.  ^_^
