I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who tune in for my first official stream on Picarto last night!  https://picarto.tv/baronengel Folks seemed to have a very good time, very few folks had streaming issues and at one point last night it was the most popular stream on Picarto as this screen grab shows!

I know I've said it over and over but I want thank everyone for their support as I have made the transition to full-time artist. Without your support this would still be a dream of mine! The next stream will be Sunday October 25th at the usual time of 5:30pm I look forward to seeing folks there and if you've enjoyed the commercial-free experience of Picarto tell your friends about it and invite them to the next one!

I hope you like what you see. Please help make more art like this possible by supporting me at  https://www.patreon.com/BaronEngelnumber one

Postwar motorcycle gear

Postwar Motorcycle gear

Going through and cataloging which of my old sketchbooks I want to put on eBay for sale first when I came across this collection of study sketches I did years ago for a color piece that I never got around to completing. Sigh, maybe some day but not today.

The piece in question was to be of an all feline anthro motorcycle racing crew at one of the Isle of Mann races in the 1950's. The added twist was that rider would be Manx who was riding a Norton Manx motorcycle, which was one dominant models during this time period.
The thing I found so amazing was how much more sophisticated modern motorcycle gear is, and how slowly gear developed in the the first 30 years after the Second World War. It was a very subtle evolution from 1930's through even the mid 1960's.

The other thing I found amusing is how certain shapes and forms will repeat themselves throughout history. As I started to study helmet designs from the period I was surprised at how close they mimic the designs of steel skull caps from the Middle Ages. I don't know if motorcycle helmet designers were inspired by these earlier helmets, or whether it is a case of convergent evolution but I found it interesting.

Back from the Alternative Press Expo

We had a good time. It was a bit of a relax-O-con for Baron and I. Sales were soft, but we expected that. This show was more about networking than selling for us.

One thing I was really pleased to see this year is such a variety of different books. In past years, when in San Francisco, it was all hard-core Crumb/Too-much Coffee Man styled titles. While I like books like that occasionally, I think it helps everyone if there is more than *just* those style of titles. But the move back to San Jose seems to really adjust things to a more balanced mix of stories and artists.

Do we plan to go back? We sure hope to and are planing on it. But seeing that money is tight and tables are not free, we have to see how fiances balance out before committing to another year.

FYI - we still have copies of both 'To kill a Dragon' and 'The Keeper's Warrior' available. If your interested in either, drop us a line. ^.^

Doing a test tomorrow night

Okay we've started to get some usefully data in from the two poll questions I posted earlier today  Conducting some research on streaming  and based on this information we are going to try a little test tomorrow night.

Myself, Lance and many who tune in for my streams have expressed frustration at commercials that pop up randomly through out the streams. Lance and I have been considering other alternatives but were uncertain what folks were using to view my streams on. Based on the data we are receiving we're going to do a test stream on Picarto tomorrow Picarto/ Baron Engel .

We'll be starting at 7pm PDT and running for only about 90 minutes. We're doing this tomorrow night because I will be at the Alternative Press Exposition from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon  We'll be at APE next weekend!

APE2015 Table Layout

Things have been hopping here as we prepare for the Alternative Press Expo 2015 next weekend. The new books, 'To Kill a Dragon', have arrived and in glorious color. We will also copies of 'The Keeper's Warrior', as well as complete runs of 'Bureau of Mana Investigation' and 'Liberty from Hell'.

If you at the show, come by the table and say "Hi". I'll be there with Baron, and James from Fox Den will be helping out as well. We'd all love to see you!
