Rindis’ July 2013 Summary

Reading:
7/15 – The Mediterranean World in the Age of Philip II (part one)

Gaming:
7/18 – FB18 Red Banner Days (Advanced Squad Leader)
7/23 – Two Rounds of Hysiae (Commands & Colors: Ancients)

Another fairly dry month. Not a lot of gaming going on at the moment (though I should think about a review of Skylanders), but at least I got through a fairly long book.

In Our Old and Rusty Tub…

A while ago I mentioned the new Space Battleship Yamato remake. I wanted to show the opening credits of the series at the time, but the only videos up were various trailers in Japanese. Well, here it is:

For now at least. I have a feeling it'll get taken down soon.

Here comes the Ewok!

So - as most of you have heard already, SWTOR is adding in a new companion to the game in the near future, an Ewok.

Now, while I have nothing either for nor against Ewoks, this suddenly brought an earlier conversation to mind I had with a friend of mine who is a SERIOUS Star Wars head and Ewok lover, Amy Pronovost*. In that talk I had asked if Ewoks were possible and she replied no, it was too early for the Moon of Endor's discovery by the public at large.

When Bioware announced the new companion my immediate reaction was to poke her via my LiveJournal and asked her "Amy, doesn't that break the time line?"

Her reply -

:O It does, majorly.

BUT BUT BUT. There are Duloks in the galaxy at large in the Prequel era. And the 'Castaways of Endor' article Dan Wallace and I wrote kind of opens the door to Ewoks being found earlier.

The forest moon was a destination for slave and circus ships. That's how the duloks got out (They negotiated with the slavers), and that's how a smattering of Ewoks would have made it out, too, I suppose.

So, yeah, while a little jarring in that it pushes back the timeline quite a bit, it is plausible.

Do I get nerd points?

*Just for the record - Amy has worked officially on some of the Star Wars world books and even has a semi-cannon race, the Amarans. Hence why she's my go-to girl for all things Star Wars. ^.^

Rindis’ June 2013 Summary

by rindis on July 1, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Games:
6/2 – Pursuit of Gallipoli (Pursuit of Glory)
6/17 – Clash of Galicia (Clash of Giants II)
6/23 – AP52 Into Vienna Woods (Advanced Squad Leader)

Well, there was a little while when I was thinking I wouldn't have anything this month, so three entries isn't all bad. I've launched into some heavy, longer books, so there hasn't been anything to review there (should change soon). Also, I've been keeping myself busy in SW:TOR lately, so my Paradox review series is officially at a standstill. sigh

“Star Wars Land” reportedly in the planning phase

found on Crunchyroll: Disney World Rumored to build "Star Wars" theme park

Rumor has it the mouse is about to re-decorate his house - Florida’s Disney World is getting a galactic-sized face lift by way of a Star Wars theme park. Reports are coming in from multiple places that the day we’ve all longed for since Disney bought out Lucas’s mega franchise last year is here.

According to TheForce.Net, the speculated plans include a Mos Eisley Cantina restaurant (which will also appear in Paris), an updated Star Tours and a whole lot of environments/character meet-and-greets.

Still in the rumor stages, but it's not what *I* expected from the Great Mouse House buyout...
